IMATS!

So guys I know it's been forever and ever and I sincerely apologize! I've decided to use this blog to do more reviews. I've gotten a ton of new cosmetics since the last I've written and I promise to write a blog review. Most importantly though, I have just returned from IMATS LA and it was amazing!!!! Definitely a great experience. Did any of you go? And if you did what cosmetic line were you most excited to see. Personally for me this year it was SugarPill and Lit. I also discovered some new cosmetic lines and I'll be sure to write up reviews on a few of the items. Thinking about doing some kind of contest for followers if i see responses. Since the last blog I've been doing a few free lance jobs as well as getting a pro membership with Makeup Forever and in the process of receiving my urban decay and Royal membership. Wish me luck xD

I know this is short but I just wanted to ensure you that I'm still alive xD Next blog will be up soo and I'll review and talk more about IMATS. Untill then here are a few pictures of what I've been up to

Makeup Events xD

So IMATS is approaching and I for one am super excited! Cant wait to get my ticket. It will be my very first year attending this makeup convention and I am really looking forward to it. My friend and I are super excited to see all the new products and demonstration booths. I also heard discounted makeup is to be sold. You know that's the most exciting part! xD I am going to try hard to hold off on buying several products and wait until the convention, it'll be hard but I know it will be worth the challenge.

You guys should look into going to IMATS, it isn't just for makeup artists or those in the cosmetology business but for makeup junkies, as I like to call us. It should be an awesome experience. I am really looking forward to seeing the sugar pill booth, heard their makeup may have a great discount! It isn't until June for me, I know super far away, but i at least have time to save my money. I probably will still buy new cosmetics before, hard to break habits.
Also I'm super excited, I should have my MACPRO card by Feb, just in time for the new Viva Glam launch, which is by Nicki Minaj and Ricki Martin, so I've heard. I love Nicki so I'm really siked. I hope its a lavender like purple, but knowing her it'll be a cute pink, which I'm totally ok with. Was unable to get her Pink Friday lipstick so this ones a must. Be sure to be on a look out for that. So Black Knight should arrive this week and I'll post the next blog of reviews..thinking about doing lipstick art with black knight...we shall just have to wait and see. So yeah! hope to see some of you at IMATS and if you haven't heard or thought about going..you should xD

Oh! Before I forget, I have a little shoot I'll being doing Thursday, it's more of a one on one makeup session with two of my models, but I will be sure to update pictures of it as well.

Thanks! And Happy New Years ..(I think I forgot to write that in my last post)

The Joy Of New Makeup

Sorry I know it's been forever since I've posted but I've been super busy. So Anyways this posting is all about some new Items i've purchased and Am Reviewing. So I recently bought a few MAC, Warpaint, MUD, and Conair items. And I love them all!

Conair 1/2" Spiral curler

It's really fun to use, heats up quickly, and gives you beautiful curls. Perfect for a loose curl look, a messy look, or even just to make your hair look fuller.
 MAC ITEMS:
HANG UP AND MYTH LIPSTICK
Love!
Hang Up is a super bold, fun, flirty color. It is a deep burgandy brown color and is creamy. I use this lipstick with my vino lipliner, also from MAC. This Lipstick can easily be perfect for everyday use if you manipulate the colors well. The lipstick on its own is a purple/brown, If you use vino it will be a deeper purple, if you use cherry lipliner it will appear more brown than anything. Its fun to mix colors so i definitely  recommend playing around with with them.

Using Hang Up for more of a plumy brown
Cherry/Vino

 Hangup and Vino

Hang Up/ Honeysuckle Mary Kay gloss

Myth is my favorite nude lipstick. It is very matted so it could be a bit dry for some. Its perfect for long time wear. Love it for very natural looks as well as for when I do very bold eye looks. It's always good to have a nude in your collection. You could always gloss it up or tint it a different color using gloss. It has no tint to it just a plain nude.
Myth with a dark smokey eye

Myth in a neutral look

MAC PIGMENTS:
Cornflower is a very light blue shadow. It has some gray/silver/metal sheer to it. Its a good light pigment forever everyday use.
Teal is a green blue pigment with a metallic sheer to it. Fun to use and play around with.

WARPAINT PRODUCTS:
Skinny Dip is a really bold deep dark almost royal blue eyeshadow. Its really pigmented and i recommend it. Warpaint is the new HT line of cosmetics so it is inexpensive. I know I know some of those inexpensive products cant be trusted but i decided to give them a try since i had a gift card. I was actually really surprised at how good it was for the price. They're good extras for your collection. Its perfect for deep bright smokey eyes or for blending. Only downfall is its not very long lasting on its own

Silver Glitter Liquid Eyeliner  I don't recommend it too much only because you have to really pack it on, the brushwand it comes with is terrible, and it takes forever to dry therefore smudging your makeup! Plus it runs, alot! Stings!

Coral Shadow is not a warpaint product but one of the older HT cosmetics. Its a subtle peachy pink shadow fun for neutral looks. Its ok for the brand that it is. A bit sheer.

 MUD COSMETICS
Cream Mascara is a good mascara to have if you do makeup like I do. You don't waste or have to worry about sanitation. You use disposable wands and never use the wand it comes with. Its a tube so you can squeeze out the mascara onto the palette to use. Comes in Black and Brown.

MUD 210: Small Angle Brush is a good brush to have. Its perfect for filling in your brows. Its soft and not too expensive

MUD 500: Mini Fan Brush The bristles are soft and a perfect length. Great to use for mascara application when you do makeup on people. Works great with the cream mascara. Saves you money because its one brush to sanitize instead of repurchasing and throwing away disposable wands.

CONCEALER PALETTE
15 Color Concealer Palette is a perfect beginner pallet. It has a good color scheme and was only 6 bucks! its inexpensive and works great. I'm not too sure the brand but it is very popular and sold often on amazon and ebay at an inexpensive price. Only downfall is it's shipped from china so it takes a whole month to arrive, less if you're lucky

Hope this has been helpful! And I have a few more products to review most being MAC. Just ordered my Black Knight lipstick so as soon as it arrives this week Ill have the next few reviews up! Thanks for following. Hope the pictures were a bit helpful. Comment if you have questions.

Makeup Diaries: Discouragement to Excitement.

Hi everyone! My names Melina Olmedo and I am currently working on getting my Associates in Science with an emphasis in Cosmeotology. THEY HAVE THAT?! Lol I know, I said the same thing and I'm actually pretty excited that it exists because I can please my mother with the schooling portion but still am able to pursue my passion which is hair and makeup. Anyways this is my first time doing a blog and I'm pretty excited about it. I apologize if this first post is a bit wordy I just want to explain and reference a few things that I'd probably bring up again down the line and first and formost introduce myself. I really hope you all enjoy this blog and if not..well I'm sorry xD So on with the portion refferring to the title.

So I recieved my certificate of completion from MicMakeup school about a month ago. My friend rachel, also known as sukitron5000, (check out her blog shes amazing) had found out about this school and after researching we decided to give it a try. Long story short after stress and overcoming a few difficulties along the way we made it to the class and were a bit dissappointed. Honestly folks if you dont have a basic idea about how to do makeup don't take a MicMakeup class. Reasons why: 1)they are not very organized 2)It's way too expensive for what they cover and 3) You realise that what they cover in the five six hours you are there is what you've already known from experience. Don't get me wrong, it may have been alot better if it were more put together and organized but I guess they were barely getting started.

My advice to all of you is to really research on a class that you're thinking about taking. Know what it is you're paying for and know what others think about it. Also know what skill level you are at before attempting a class. You definatly want to be able to get your moneys worth. The best thing about that class was being able to take it with rachel and still recieving my certificate after.
WHERE THE DISCOURAGEMENT STARTED:
It was about a week or so after I recieved my certificate that I started to become discouraged because I realised how slow things were taking off, I know! And it'd only been a week! Anywho I went into it expecting things to turn out a certain way but they didn't and that was my first mistake. I went all about it in an unrealistic way. First off all, things dont just happen you have to make them happen. In regards to that, I realised I needed to advertise and get myself out there. How? Facebook. If you have a resource use it, right? Especially if its free xD. I made my page http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Make-up-and-Hair-by-Melina/199212903481347 and am pretty content with it. Sure it isn't extravagent but I am able to put up projects I worked on i.e. photoshoots or anyother event where my makeup/hairstyle services were needed. Guys a FB page is super helpful! I definatly recommend it to anyone who's starting off. I was asked by a friend do work on a photoshoot with her. I decided I would provide my services free of charge if she provided me with the shots for my portfolio, they're still not all up yet. Shoot went ok, I'm not going to lie I was a bit dissappointed. Then again some people are not cut out to take the lead and struggle with organizing things. Frustrated with the disorganization I decided to do what I went there to do and that was to transform the models into zombies and werewolfs, in according to what the photographer had in mind. In the end I was happy with my portion of the work and the feedback I recieved, it made working on four people in a few hours all worth the while. Why? Because I enjoyed it. Sure I stressed, but that's how you know when you trully love what you do, when no matter what rough patch gets in your way, you still push through and work to the best of your ability. I enjoyed working with the models, all with different personalities, and I enjoyed being present for the shoot doing touch ups in the woody area. T'was an experience! And if it wasn't for the shoot and my FB page I wouldn't have gotten all those likes in a week or an amazing offer! Thats right offer. I recieved an email the other day from a photographer who said he liked my work and that he'd like for me to do makeup for his shoots and videos. How awesome is that? I was so excited that someone had contacted ME and wanted me to work with him? It felt good to be able and tell my mom, "see I can get work," and best of all it'd be a paying gig!. I'm really looking forward to it and the project should happen in no longer than a month because he is still writting up his scripts. I'll make sure to post everything up. With that said; dont give up! Sure you're going to get discouraged every once and a while, but it'll work out as long as you give it your all. Advertise whatever way you can, do free gigs and just dont give up. Also its great to have an awesome support system. My family(some friends included) and Rachel  are mine.  Keep your head up and do what you love. I'm sorry if this seems rushed but I'm going to have to cut it short on account of something coming up. I bought makeup! And I'll tell you all about it in the next blog. Bye Thanks!!

Here are a few pictures from "behind the scenes" of the photoshoot.
